Sorry this slipped by me.

The fast and quick answer is that you can't do a conversion in the way you want.

You can though create an identical account and copy the home folder over to the network.

Our network is configured by using multipel vlans. the wireless network is comprised of three different vlans (which is dhcp). and the mac mini is on a different vlan setup as a static IP. The setup is similar to the ones listed in the about cahcing service in the server help document.

Verify or configure :
If your MAC Mini (Caching Server is on a different subnet (VLAN) than your devices (iPad) trying to get updates for your applications, you may need additional configuration:

In the Server app Caching pane, click Edit next to Permissions.

Click the “Cache content for clients connecting from” pop-up menu, then choose "only some networks.”

Add local subnets by clicking the add button, then choose an IP address group name. (Add the Subnets of each VLAN you want to be able to connect)

If the IP address group you want isn’t listed as a choice, you can create it here. **(Must know your IP Networks)

To create a different IP address range, click the add button, then choose “Create a new network.” **(If the VLAN is not here...create it.)

Enter the IP address group name, a starting IP address, and an ending IP address. ** (Remember to enter the address range here.)

You can put an address range in CIDR notation (for example, 10.0.0.1/16) in the Start IP Address field, then the ending address will automatically be entered.

After you add the desired IP address group, click Create.

When you finish the configuration, click OK.

@Don-Pezet Thank you for the info. I love the videos you post. I wish more companies used Macs but i know that is not going to happen.

Depends. If you use multiple SSIDs you can dynamically address according to what SSID a user connected on. I know more expensive SoHo all inclusive routers do this. Airports offer a guest network which will hand out different subnets accordingly but then you are limited to 2 subnets and the rules of the guest network are set by apple.

If you cannot choose a drive, this might occur if there is a software corruption or hardware issue with your Mac.

Try to boot into the internet recovery mode (alt-cmd-R), verify that you can see the destination HDD (or SSD) there.

If it doesn't show up, the drive may not be detected for hardware issues.

If you see it, it could just be a logical corruption, select the physical disk and do a first aid or repair or verify ( I cannot remember the options it gives you) Make sure you also repair the permissions too.

Others on our forums may have some other options you can try!

You need to log out the admin, from apple id that is associated with that Mac. Then do a search for change the apple id of the mac. it will lead you to a support page that you'll be able to change it. http://supportprofile.apple.com
Before you do make sure the user you've assigned it too has an apple id to associate to the Mac

I believe this is where you're going with this. Let me know if any different!

I'm assuming you're wanting to share a folder from your macbook pro, and what you're seeing from System Preferences-Sharing is not your macbook pro's computer name.

If you're successfully sharing the folder, then it's working using your IP address to share the folder. You can verify this by trying to connect to the shared folder from another computer on the same network using the IP address. If so, then whatever name is showing up that is different may be something that got cached on your macbook pro.

If you're not wanting to share the folder, then uncheck whatever is checked in system preferences-sharing. Restart the computer, that should clear out any sharing preferences. Then you can start all over and reset the sharing options you've previously set in system preferences.

I would take the current one for now. The exam objectives wouldn't be so different even in the Captain. If you wait it may be 3 to 6 months before exam objectives are out and available.

@Daniel-Espinal,

I'm a relatively new MAC user myself but doesn't System Preferences and selecting startup let you do this when you choose the disk?

When you install the new disk and install MAC OS you should be able to pick the drive to install to and that might set it as the primary boot device.

If not, other, more experienced MAC users can probably chime in here to help too. If not I'll see if I can ask Don about it. Let me know!

I had a chance to ask Don about this. Here's the secret sauce to making it work:

3 things:

Run off the internal SSD. The HOST OS must be the same version as the GUEST OS version ( e.g. If you're running Yosemite 10.10.4 on the hardware your VMs need to run Yosemite 10.10.4) Make sure you're running the latest version of VM Fusion you can.

This one slipped through on me this week.

1st step is to setup VPN Service in Yosemite. Remember that it will support L2TP and PPTP (always when possible use the L2TP).

You may have to purchase the server app from the Appstore, Open Server App and select VPN on left side.
Choose how you want to configure VPN
type the FQDN or the IP address
Set the shared secret or certificate
click edit to right of client addresses and assign proper addresses for you vpn clients.
Select the route to the networks vpn clients will access.
open proper firewall ports 1723 (PPTP) or 1701 (L2TP) and 50 IP-ESP

I may have missed a step from memory...so MAC folks help us out!! :)

i installed putty with Crossover and it worked.

So, what I ended up doing was creating a virt machine and using it as the server (since you can specify the hardware through VMWare). Once OSX Server saw the ethernet port on the virt machine all was good. New to VMWare, but not sure why I didn't think of that before. Learning!

An additional difference is that the System Image Utility has a different path location than on Mavericks (/System/Library/CoreServices/)... on Yosemite it is: /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/

We're looking into how we would best be able to do this. Most of us are System and Network Admins and Dev content is not in our wheelhouse but that doesn't mean we don't want to leave developers out so we're trying to work on a solution for that side of the business! David: I understood it as having your "clean" dmg -> img for recovery purposes. Now that manufacturers do not include a "recovery" CD imagine your recovery partition as your backup "CD" in the case it is needed. Now, I suppose based on the situation you can make your own or simply use the 10.10 from the App Store. Worst case, you have to sit and wait to download the 10.10 in a recovery mode...
