ITF+ or A+?
-
Hey guys,
I am tossing up whether to watch the ITF+ fully or go straight to studying A+. I'm half way through watching ITF+ but I feel bored and not engaged. I do have a keen interest in IT and I am looking to career change out of Mining in Western Australia within the next 12 months.
Should I continue to watch the ITF+ videos and go to A+ or go straight there?
Thanks guys.

What is your goal for the series?
-
The ITF+ is for those who are seeking to enter into the IT field but may not know exactly what field. This is an introduction to the major fields of possible career fields.
-
The A+ is for those that are seeking the Industry Standard entry level certification for working in IT. The equivalent knowledge of 6 month or more of working or studying for a career in the IT industry.
This is all about your goals...and not so much watching the entire series.

@Ronnie-Wong Hey Ronnie,
Firstly, awesome presentation on the ITF series, Plenty of brilliant information in there from yourself and Don. Keep up the great work.
So, I am looking to eventually get into Cyber Security but I know I also need to develop that really strong foundational base of knowledge to be able to do that. Also, knowing I may not get into CS straight away, I understand I will need to gain an entry level role first. I am looking to get the big 3 in A+, Network+ or CCNA and Security+.
Would this be a good path to follow?
I'm watching the ITF series first but I do find it's a tad slow for me but I have picked up alot of great info too.
Cheers Ronnie,

I would look at the job posted by the company you want to get into. And see if there is are recommended certifications they are wanting to see from their employees.
The path you set is good to set the core knowledge you will need when working with computers in cybersecurity. This is where many people will struggle that will jump right into cybersecurity, they don't have the background and do not have the knowledge to troubleshoot computers or networking to know.
Always be more goal oriented in obtaining your certifications!

@Ryan-Watts Why not take a look at some practice exams for ITF+ and look to backfill areas you're less familiar with?
Is this your first certification? ITF+ is a lifetime cert and quite cheap to sit, so I'd argue take that first, as much as anything to get a handle on the exam experience, the way that CompTIA like to word questions, how the exam environment works which test centre you're going to use etc. etc. Worst case scenario, you come away thinking the exam was easy, already have a cert under your belt and have a handle on how the whole process works :)
Then, A+ -> Net+ --> Sec+ in that order. A+ is a recommended prerequisite for Net+, Net+ is a recommended prerequisite for Sec+.
