Network: MAN and WAN
-
Hi team,
I do have a quick question:
Can I affirm that the Metropolitan Area Network is a little WAN?
Do the packets inside the MAN pass through the ISP? Or they just go router by router INSIDE the network?
In the WAN, we do have the packets passing through the ISP? That's the main difference right?Course: Network+
Episode: Network TypesThanks a looooot!

You are correct in the fact that MANs are "mini WANs" or in other words, MANs are larger than LANs (typically connecting multiple LANs together, within the same city) but distances are smaller than WANs. MANs can utilize LAN-based technologies such as Ethernet (MetroEthernet) as well. On another note, a campus area network or CAN is a "MAN," but all LANs are controlled by a single academic institution. Remember than distance is the key here.
