My OS is now on a Dynamic Disk
-
So I was having a great time in the MCSA Windows 7 70-680. Learning lots of info and I have an Alienware Machine with two 750GB Hybrid Drives one of them had my OS and the other has my media. I was like hey let me try doing that striping thing for my 750GB drives, create a small partition and host my Windows page file on that.
This was at 3AM and the lesson I learned the hard way was I can't boot off of a dynamic disk. (Even though you said something about it in the lesson).
Do you guys know of any tools that can help me convert my dynamic disk back to a basic one without loosing my data.
I found a program called Partition Wizard. Have you used it before? -
Sagar,
I'm a little surprised your Windows 7 machine failed to boot after converting it to a dynamic disk. A Windows 7 install can boot from a dynamic disk as long as it was installed while on a basic disk. So in your case, there must have been something else in the process that caused your machine to fail booting. As for any tools to covert it back to basic, I haven't used any that retained the data on the disk. The program you mentioned, Partition Wizard, says it can but I haven't used it before. Before using any tools, it may be a good idea to slave your hard drive into another PC and take an image of it just in case the conversion back to basic goes south. Let me know how it goes.
