CompTIA A+ Exam Codes 220-1001 & 220-1002 (Core 1 & Core 2)

Coming in January 2019 – The New CompTIA A+ Core Series
CompTIA A+ Exam Codes 220-1001 & 220-1002 (Core 1 & Core 2) will be available January 15, 2019. The new CompTIA A+ Core Series covers expanded content on these growing parts of the IT support role including an expansion of baseline security topics and a different approach in defining competency in operational procedures.Q1 - What is the faith of the current students preparing for the 900 series?
Q2 - How soon would the new 1000 series ( Core 1 & Core 2 ) be available for subscribers here?
-
@ADEBAYO-AKINSIPE that is a couple of great questions, let us see if we can help you with them.
Q1 - I need a little more context as to what you mean about "the faith of the current students". Can you clarify this for me?
I am going to try to answer this one, if a student is currently studying for the 900 series, they will have a great body of knowledge already for the 1000 series exams. The student/exam candidate will be responsible for supplementing the additional (new) topics as required by the CompTIA issued objectives. Now with that said usually when CompTIA issues the new objectives they will also set a retirement date for the prior series exam. This is usually 6 months after the new exam series is released, the existing 900 series in this case will still have a valid exam until around July 2019 (This is always subject to change by CompTIA) if the trend of prior series releases stay true.
Q2- We will have the 220-1000 (Core 1, Core 2) on the site ready to go Jan. 15th 2019.If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Hello!
A few questions about the training for the new CompTIA A+ certification, exams 220-1001 (Core 1) and 220-1002 (Core 2).
- Will it be split in two parts covering the two exams, just like the 900 series is? Now it’s just one (CompTIA A+ Core 2019 (In Production)). If yes, when?
- Will there be practice exams for them? Is so, when?
- Will there be practice labs for them? Is so, when?
Thank you!

@ wes-bryan I have the same questions Andrei C has. When I'm looking it doesn't show it broke up as 220-1001 & 220-1002. I was really wondering are all the videos going to be new i had a very hard time grasping the networking portion of the 901-902 so I would really love to see that explained a different way or just again and maybe there will be something that clicks with me and will help me out there..
This is stressful I got a voucher for the 901 doubt that would work for one of the core exams... =/ I don't want to spend the next 6 months studying and have a chance of failing and going back and just wishing I started over again and committed myself like I should have a year ago...
I feel so stupid it's the memorization of stuff that has me off alot of the times from just gazing over these exam objectives it looks like I might as well roll the dice on the 901-902.So to sum it up
- all new videos for each section not copied over from the 901 or 902 series?
- when will they be split up??
*im sure the practice exams etc will come along within the next month?
*probably not a good idea to dodge this and just take the 901-902 isn't going to help me when I actually get a job in IT, if I don't know it I don't know it and thats not going to help if I want to actually have a career in IT.. Just very intimidated sorry for all the bleh...

Hello All,
The new CompTIA A+ series (2019) will be a big change in the familiar naming convention.
1 - In the past the series have followed the 600, 700, 800 and 900 series
2 - Each exam would be labeled 220-701/220-702, 220-801/220-802, 220-901/220-902The new structure will be different:
1- Core 1 content will map to the exam 220-1001
2- Core 2 content will map to the exam 220-1002In the future you will probably see them continue with this naming convention.
We are recording the first edition according to CompTIA's single book format. It will be comprehensive and include both Core 1 and Core 2 content. We will be shooting all new content with no "carry-over" videos from the 900 series.
In the future we will be going back and recording a two book format as well. This format will break the Core 1 (220-1001 exam) and the Core 2 (220-1002) into separate shows. The two exam format is pending.
A great majority of the objectives that were relevant to the 900 series are still relevant in the 1000 series exams. Some information will be removed and there will be new material as is on par with past exam series releases.
I am not sure as to the practice exams availability, but they are usually ready to go shortly after the official announcement from CompTIA that the new exams have been released. I hope this helps and please ask any questions you might still have.

You are most welcome @Cole-Maki if you need help do not hesitate to ask.

Hello @wes-bryan
What do you mean by “single book format” and “the two exam format is pending”? From what I see on the comptia website, there are two study guides, two exams. The course overview here is also clear about the separation.
You also say “In the future we will be going back and recording a two book format as well”. What do you mean? Can’t you just break the information in two, following the course overview? From what I see, the topics posted in the course, although not all complete, are the same as those posted by comptia in the course overview available here. Why do you have to “go back and record a two book format as well”? This makes me uncertain, can I go take the separate exams with the information provided by you in this unified format? If I do, why do you have to rerecord for the two format?
What about the practice labs I was asking about?
Thank you!

Hey @Andrei-C
Great questions, I apologize if I have not answered them in completeness. We are working with CompTIA to create the content according to a format that they provided. All of the exam objectives will be covered in the single format. The study guides you have mentioned follow the individual exam format. We will have somewhere around 90 hours of content filmed for the A+ series upon completion. The new exams went live on Jan. 15th 2019 and we have a good bit of the content already filmed and we are still in production. In the past when we have followed a two exam format each exam was around 40 hours of content. We will be recording the same amount of content under a single series.
As far as the practice exams and labs I will get back with you on these as I do not have that information, but I am more than happy to get it for you and post it here. Thank you so much for being a member and we will work hard to get the show completed very soon. I hope this helps to answer your questions.

@wes-bryan, I still don’t understand why you take the unified approach, who benefits from that? It’s not like there’s a unified exam, like CCNA, and you create content for it because some may choose the all-in-one exam against the split examination (ICND1 & ICND2). As far as I know, the only way with A+ is with the two exams.
Anyway, again, if I choose the topics from your all in one training based on the course overview of each of the two exams, it shall be fine, right? It’s not even the first half and the second half, they’re all mixed…
On a more appreciative note, thank you for the promptness of your answers. Also, the fact that they come from the trainer itself is a big plus.
Good luck with the recordings :)
-
@wes-bryan, just when I was starting to appreciate the promptness of your answers... no answer in two weeks :)
Anyway, Installing and Configuring PC Components - PC Components Part 3 (about motherboards as I understand from part four's introduction) is missing. Instead it is replaced by Common Connection Interfaces Part 3. A few episodes down the line, Common Connection Interfaces Part 3 again.

Hey @Andrei-C I am sorry for a delayed response, the practice exams are managed and released by Kaplan. We have not received any information on availability for the 1000 series exams. We have heard from the company that is responsible for the Practice Labs and the labs are due for availability in Q1 of 2019. I also talked with the backend team on the video error and it should be corrected. Thank you for keeping me on my toes!

@wes-bryan When will the "supporting and troubleshooting laptops" and "network infrastructure concepts" videos be uploaded in the A+ core 1001/1002 course?
-
@Jose-Ortiz great question, we have yet to record those episodes and as soon as we record them we will post them to the site (usually 24-48 hours after recording)
