A+ Motherboard CPU Sockets
-
The first CPU they pull out of the socket they call a BGA(Ball-Grid Array) socket type. I remembered reading somewhere Intel was considering going all BGA and that people were complaining they wouldn't be able to upgrade their CPU separate from the motherboard anymore so I did some checking. That was an LGA socket with the pins on the motherboard, BGA CPU's are soldered onto the motherboards, the PGA is the one with the pins on the CPU itself. Not sure if it ever comes up in the exam, but just thought I should share that.

Steven,
Thanks for writing in. At the A+ level, they don't really distinguish too much between LGA and BGA. The exam objectives specifically mention LGA whereas I probably called it BGA from the older iteration of the exam. Thanks for pointing that out!
