The \*eight\* phases of a laser printer
-
Near the beginning of the laser printer segment of printers part 1, Don and Wes say CompTIA now calls out eight phases for laser printing. They also said it's important to memorize them and know their order. Upon finishing the episode, I had written seven phases in my notes:
- Processing
- Cleaning and charging
- Exposing
- Developing
- Loose transfer
- Fusing
- Cleaning
Why do I have only seven phases when there are supposed to be eight? Are cleaning and charging supposed to be two separate phases? You seemed to describe them as one phase and even numbered them that way in a recap at the end.

You're correct the cleaning and charging are part of what is called the conditioning phase. The addition to the process from the previous iteration of the exam (220-70x,220-60x) would be the processing phase. I believe the correct process is as follows for the exam (220-80x):
Processing
Conditioning (Cleaning & Charging)
Exposing (Writing)
Developing
Transferring
Fusing
Cleaning
When I first learned it, it was only 6 phases. Let us know how else we can help you towards your exam success!

Ok, thank you. So CompTIA now call out seven phases but used to call out six. In the episode, Don and Wes said previous exams had called out seven phases but now called out eight. I guess they simply misspoke. Like your comment here, they said that processing was the phase added in this exam.
