Home Access to NAS/Services from Outside my Network
-
Hello all!
I am currently looking at moving away from Google Workspace and I want to host my data myself on my local NAS. What solutions do you use? I am currently at looking at something like this:
Nextcloud: I believe this product should be able to replace most of what Google Workspace Offers for both my cloud storage needs as well as creating/working with documents. Tailscale: This solution would be to allow access into my network and so that when I share files users outside my network will be able to access them.
What am I missing? Is this a bad way to accomplish my goals? I am totally open to any suggestions on how to complete this internal project of mine.
My current available hardware:
Dell Optiplex desktop with Windows Server 2022: This device has a 1 TB SSD, an Intel Core i5 processor and 16GB of RAM. The only thing that I have running on it currently is Plex and my Unifi Network Server.
QNAP TS-412 NAS: Fresh setup that is running 8TB of RAID 5 storage. This will also be used to support Backups of my personal devices.
Dell Optiplex desktop with Proxmox: This device is currently mostly being used for my homelab environment and learning ADDS for the AZ800/801. I wouldn't want to use this unless there's good reasoning to.
Looking forward to hearing some suggestions on what I should do. Please let me know if you need any additional information from me.
Take care!

I had never heard of Nextcloud and I checked it out as a result of this post. Seems impressive. Please keep this thread updated on your progress and thanks for sharing.

Thanks @Anthony-Sequeira-0 I will.
I was hoping for a little guidance from the community as well if anyone can suggest anything. Otherwise I'll just pick something and hope for the best lol
