MS Office automated Netinstaller
-
Hi im working through Apple Basic and looking to do a Netinstall but was wondering what was the best way of install office through Netinstaller as its installer requires interaction but i want to automate it.
I tryed a search but it does not look like this question has been asked before.

This depends on what if any features that might be available from the Microsoft SDK for Office for Mac. For example, an unattended install on Windows happens when all the configuration elements are answered in a .XML file that is written and available during the install. If this feature is available for Office for Mac then you might have a chance to do so.
The preferred method is to use NetInstaller to deploy your OS image and then use Profiler to deploy software. This assumes you're using Apple's OpenDirectory infrastructure. If not your best bet is finding the SDK.

Thank you for your reply.
Im still relativly new to managing Macs and do so for a Secondary School in the UK.
When you say profiler do you mean Profile Manager. We have recently moved to using Apples Profile Manager but our version of Office for Macs runs under a Educational License so is a standalone Version to install.

Yes, the Profile Manger. Hard for me to remember the names of these system managers sigh.

Thank you again for your quick response.
In the end NetInstaller was not what I was looking for and Netrestore is a non starter as it requires extra cables I dont have at hand not to mention the need to move heavy equipment from one office to another just to connect them phyically togeather. Also many complained but I could not verify that is struggled to deploy software like Adobes products or Office for Mac in it image.
Instead I have installed DeployStudio from deploystudio.com.
This clever free software enables me to create a deployable image of a mac over the network and deploy as easily as if I was using NetInstaller/NetRestore. I hope this helps any one else who finds this Question.

With no other responses, I've marked this as solved.
