A+ Is it possible to upgrade an HDD laptop to an SSD laptop?
-
Hello,
A colleague of mine asked me a few days ago to help him choose between two SSDs he saw in a brochure. My first question was: can a laptop's hardrive be replaced with an SSD, I mean can an SSD fit inside an HDD slot? My second question was: for laptops, do you need M.2 SSDs that really fit into a specific slot on your mobo, or do the other types of SSDs also have space enough to fit in a laptop? My last question: can most modern laptops be upgraded with an SSDs?
Thank you

@thomas-pondant,
You're on the right track..and the answer depends on the laptop itself. If it already has a convention 2.5" HDD SATA drive in, it will probably allow you to swap this for a 2.5" SDD. My suggestion is lookup the specs on the manufacturer's website. If it's possible for a RAM upgrade kit too, I would also going ahead and do this too. ( I do not want to take a part a laptop more often than needed and this will prevent me from doing it twice.
On 2, yes...M.2 fit in the slots and work with the ones designated for it. You'll see M.2 is notched differently that others of similar SSD types.
On last question, yes, as long as it matches connector and form factor for the devices. -
Some chipsets don't work with SSDs very well. So check bing for your laptop + SSD. I would also upgrade RAM when you have it open. If you can max it out, it would help more than an SSD drive.
