is there any way to upgrade the memory on my ec2 instance server without changing the instance type?

Not that I know of, every EC2 instance type comes preconfigured with a standardized number of CPUs, amount of RAM. This means if you need more then you would have change an instance type.
Other's may prove me wrong and tell us it's possible but I don't see an EC2 instance property that lets me just increase memory.
