Ronnie: Career Change
-
Hi Ronnie (or anyone else for whom it may be relevant to reply!),
In your A+ course (currently the RAM episode), you mentioned that you went through a career change, utilizing your A+ certification. Would you mind sharing your experience with that? I am currently a teacher (Band Director), and seriously considering the same type of career change; both for my sincere love of my lifelong technology hobby, and to have the opportunity to actually spend time with my family (Band directors don't have much in the way of spare time on the weekends, and that really eats into the personal life).
Thanks both for your time, as well as what you folks have put together here at ITProTV. I'm enjoying it thus far, and it's been a great asset to my textbook study as well.
-Best,

Will,
Glad to share a little bit. I was working as a Diesel Mechanic around the time of Hurricane Katrina. Most of the smaller mobile outfits, like the one I was working for was heading out to LA to do heavy equipment repair and maintenance. Our company, was heading out for a 6 month to year of being out there when I decided I needed to stay home but there weren't any small outfits hiring.
I ended up working for a contracted telephone support company that was doing call support for Virgin Mobile. After seeing the guys working on the servers in their data center. I knew I had to do more than just another job but to get a career. This is when I sought out some training and ended up earning my A+ certification. Soon after i was hired on a probationary basis, then permanently.
The resulting style of what you hear and see is not from a script or professional writers but of individuals who remember what it's like to have "been there" and remember what it's like to have to study hard again after being out of college for more than a decade. We try to present it as if we were sitting where you're sitting and provide the information that you'll need to be successful for your certification goals.
Thanks for kind words, we appreciate every word and hope to continue to improve our content to provide career changers and the current ITPro with the knowledge needed in the IT field!
Cordially,
Ronnie Wong
