AWS Certified Solutions Architect vs practitioner
-
Hello ITPro, so is it a requirement to sit for the practitioner exam before diving into the Architect exam? Seems like the Architect exam is a bit more technical which is what I am after.
Do AWS certifications expire?

Hey Adam,
You are correct that the AWS Certified Solutions Architect is more technical. However, if you are not very familiar with Amazon Web Services, then I do recommend AWS Cloud Practitioner which will give a great overview of the core AWS services. Luckily, there are not prerequisites for sitting for either one of the exams so you can choose your own adventure. As far as expiration, each time you take a certification, then that certification is valid for 3 years. You would need to recertify before that time unless you take a Professional level certification which will update all of your expiration dates to coincide with the expiration of the Professional level.
Hopefully that clears that up.

Thanks Justin! What is a professional level cert compared with the two I originally posted about? Architect and practitioner are both not considered professional?

Adam,
The practitioner and associate level exams are more about familiarity with practices and services within AWS. However, the professional level exams are about applying those concepts in response to customer requirements such as cost minimization, performance maximization, or scalability/reliability.Hope that helps.
