No exercises for macOS in the Practice Labs - How can a beginner train?
I am on the CompTIA A+ course. I do not have much knowledge about computers so far, and my knowledge about macOS and Linux is almost not existing. My subscription at ITProTV includes the Practice Labs, and they have some helpful exercises for Windows, but none for macOS.
Are there any other resources that you could recommend that could give me a little bit hands-on experience with MacsOS? (And maybe some easy exercises for Linux as well, as it was rapidly getting way too hard for me in Practice Labs.)
Thank you very much.
Unfortunately, Apple has very strict rules on how you are allowed to virtualize macOS. Basically, they will only let you run macOS on official Apple hardware which is why we are unable to provide labs for it.
As for options, it basically boils down to one of three things:
- Purchase a used mac on eBay. You can usually pick up an older Mac Mini or MacBook and use it as a lab machine.
- Build a "Hackintosh" where you break the rules and run macOS on unsupported hardware or software like Virtual Box.
- Use a service like MacInCloud to rent time on a virtual mac.
None of them are ideal, but Apple has set the rules for this and we can't break them.
I hope that helps,
I am curious to the time and resources I should spend on Mac for the 1002 exam. Will watching Wes and Zach's tutorial give me a decent knowledge base? I have spent a lot of time this Mac access issue already and I am scheduled to take the exam in 9 days.
Thanks for the great resources,
