Which CompTIA A+ course to start?
-
Hello all,
I'm just about done the CompTIA IT Fundamentals course and would like to start the A+ series next. I noticed the new cert is based off the 1101/1102, so I'm wondering if I should bother with 1001/1002 series?
I'm new to IT so I'm guessing it would be in my best interest to do 1001/1002 & 1101/1102, but I wanted to get some feedback as to where to invest my time/energy.Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hi Matt,
You'll want to study for the new 220-1101 & 220-1102 exams now - the old ones retire pretty soon :)
CompTIA usually add or remove a handful of things from the blueprint to keep the certification current and relevant to what's happening now - taking the latest one is therefore not just the best choice exam study wise, but also the best way to get the most relevant content.
If you're new, watch the full length course rather than the accelerated version - the accelerated version might however be a great way to revise before taking the exam!
The A+ course will be everything you need for that exam, but don't forget to look around the course library for extra material for any areas where you'd like to learn more or see things used in a bit more context - for just one example, Wes has also done a great "how to build a PC" series, or there's also one on basic system maintenance which you can watch to see some of the hardware aspects of the course in action :)
A+ is such a good certification because it's an introduction to loads of different areas - see what you most enjoy and then you can think about a higher certification in that specific area!

@Matt-Gauld great question, and @Scott-Fenn has added some great advice, I will add the following:
1 - If you have already been studying the 220-1000 series and you are close to sitting the exam, then it benefits you to stay the course and sit that exam. Pay attention to the retirement date of the 220-1000 series. (Oct. 20, 2022 = https://www.comptia.org/certifications/a#examdetails )
2 - If you do proceed with the 220-1000 and the retirement date comes and goes, please do not be too alarmed. When a new exam series (220-1100) is released, 80% of the former objectives are still relevant to the new objectives. You can just look at the new content required for the exam and add that to your studies.
If you have additional questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me here!

I have a question that is related to this. How come the New A+ course can be so much shorter than the old one? 25 hrs compared to 100+hr course.
Is the old one more in-depth and the new one more a summary? Is it worth looking at the old one as well to get more detailed explanation on certain topics?
