CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ virtual lab error
-
Hello everyone,
So I am currently doing the virtual lab CompTIA IT Fundamentals+, Manage Operating System Tools, and I believe there were some steps skipped, or something wasn't completely right.
In the first exercise called Install and Configure Printers, we have to add and share a printer, and connect to that shared printer. For this we are using PLABDM01 and PLABWIN01. So, these are the issues I've encountered. After I added the printer in PLABDM01 as requested, I am supposed to connect with this printer through the PLABWIN01 virtual lab. However, when typing the link provided in the lab, \plabdm01\printer1, there is no connection possible with the shared printer. The virtual labs shows an image of a succesful connection, but this isn't the case on my end.
I was able to solve this issue by manually connecting to PLABDM01 through the "Browse" function, and then typing the credentials to connect to PLABDM01 first. After I connected to PLABDM01, I was able to add Printer1 to the PLABWIN01 virtual enviroment. My point is, these steps aren't mentioned in the virtual lab guidance. Could you please perhaps take a look at this? Or maybe I did something wrong, and misunderstood the lab completely. Anyway. I am feeling a bit confused right now., and I hope to get some explanation from you.
Thanks in advance.Cheers.

Hey @Camelia-G, if you are typing the universal naming convention path or UNC path, the format is:
\\computername\sharename
For this example try:
\\plabdm01\printer1
If you have typed the UNC path and there still was not a connection to the shared printer, it might mean that this needs to be looked at by our Practice Labs team, in which case you can submit a ticket via support@practicelabs.com
Let me know if the UNC syntax was the error!

Hello @wes-bryan , I typed the exact same path as you specified in your reply. . \\plabdm01\printer1
The issue still persists.
I had to manually add and browse the printer, but this wasn't explained in the virtual lab at all. Perhaps someone could go through this?
Thanks in advance, have a great weekend. -
We have reported this to the team, and I am going to log into the Practice Labs platform to recreate the issue and provide insight!
