Android App

Any plans for an Android app with possibly having Chromecast support?
-
Warren - I've been told that the iOS app will be released first, followed later by the Android version. On my Nexus 6 (Lollipop 5.1, awaiting 5.1.1, granted a more-powerful Android system) I can mirror the screen to a Chromecast (I have four around in different places), then maximize the video (either the live-stream or from the library) on my phone. Remarkably there is no lag evident, and the Nexus 6 doesn't get even get warm.

With the iOS app being out for a while now, is there an update or ETA on the android app? Listening during my commutes is the only focused time I have, and it would be great if my progress during that time was tracked. Thanks.

This is another feature we hope to offer to our members. It just takes time. The Apple app is our foray into the App world. We've got our development jumping right now with site features and this will be something a little further down the road but we do want you and everyone to be aware. Yes, it's coming! :)

Looking forward to an Android App in the future!

@Nathaniel-Miller
1st quarter of 2016. Expect to see it! -
Apple’s smartphone share was 32.6% September when the iPhone 6 was launched and even the larger screen iPhones do not seem to be creating a long-term shift in market share
Android’s share of the US smartphone market is 58.1% Forbes.com
Perhaps Android should have been the first choice. -
@Matt-Hieter
Matt - when we conducted a survey last year, 84% of our members used an iOS device so that was why we started with that one. -
I drive 2 hours to work and 2 hours home. Being able to listen to the courses while I drive is HUGE. Can't really watch the video but just taking in the information is a big step. Unfortunately I have Android and I see that this is not out yet. Is there a need for BETA testers? I am 100% on board with that if you need one.

@Todd-White
We appreciate this! Thanks. I'll let you know if our developers ask for beta testers. -
I have also been waiting for the Android app to arrive. I would get a ton of use out of it, as the site functionality on my Android device is severely lacking to the point that I stopped using it.
-
I, too, am waiting for an android app. Can you give us an ETA on when you might have one available? Using it on Chrome is cumbersome.
-
@Matthew-Robertson
We are still on track to have the Android app by end of Q1. -
Waiting on the android app too! It'll be nice to use my Note 4. Can't wait for it's release! Will be handy to have while laying in bed at night vs having the surface or a laptop! Come on ITProTV Devs!

Please let me beta test the app when available! The ability to view on mobile is unfortunately almost making me think about cancelling my account which I would hate to do.

We are working with an outside development team who is building all of our apps. As soon as they are available we will let you know so you can try them out. I can tell you that they have been very aware of making the Android experience as positive as possible for our members. We previewed the AppleTV last weekend and were very impressed with this first look. This team will also provide ongoing support for the apps which will be an added plus. Our dev team is very excited about what is ahead. -
Just going to add my voice to the excitement. I Like going for long walks and often listen
to Podcasts, having the ability to put the Android app for ITpro.TV on audio only mode and learn IT would be fantastic. Can't wait. -
@Angie I'm afraid I have to agree with being totally frustrated with the mobile experience. The primary reason I signed up was the ability to take advantage of travel time and so far it has been a wasted expense on both mobile experience and episode downloads to mobile devices. I hope to see some evidence of your commitment to your premium subscribed audience which was a requirement to leverage these options.

@Andy-Donaldson
We understand the frustration. The Android app is scheduled to be submitted this week. Will keep you posted. Thanks -
