Closed Captioning Issues/Feedback
-
Hi all!
First of all, I just want to say that I really love what you all offer. I've had eyes on joining for several years and I finally bit the bullet this year. (The discount from the NetworkChuck sponsorship also encouraged me a little haha)
I've tried my best to really dive deep into the information, and I'm already learning a lot. My typical learning regiment consists of watching the videos while reading the closed captioning to ensure my comprehension of the information.
However, one thing I'm noticing in every video is that the closed captioning often gets words wrong, adds additional words, changes the meanings of sentences, etc. Where it is really apparent is when industry-specific terms are mentioned, they are often incorrect and incoherent.
Now as someone who has a bit of baseline IT knowledge, this hasn't yet been an issue for me specifically. But as I get into topics I have no knowledge of, I can see this being an issue, especially when things aren't accompanied by diagrams.
I'm also concerned for someone who was starting out fresh or required closed captioning due to hearing issues, since this really hurts the accessibility, especially for what we're paying.
I apologize if this has already been mentioned before, but I didn't see any other topics

Thanks for being a member.
We've been using a transcription service for years. We did find out that even then most of the transcribers wouldn't be technical experts and wouldn't also know things like acronyms or industry terminology. Even after multiple years, we still had issues. Which if don't know, these services cost every time you submit something for transcription...even for a typos done on their part.
We've recently decided that switch to another captioning product that uses AI but this still means that we're using terms and acronyms and other words that is not common. Our benefit here is that we can now submit terms that can be added into the service to be learned. But it takes time.
The AI can learn not only new words but also cadence of the voices and distinguish them but because of that, it still takes time. We are getting better but it will probably be a bit of time before we get way better accuracy. We're trying though. Thank you for your concerns. We are trying to make it better.

Hi @Ronnie-Wong thanks for the response! Really appreciate you and the team being active on the forums!
Totally understand the headaches with transcription services, deal with them a lot on live broadcasts. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
