Security+ Simulation Questions
-
Hi there, first time poster, long time subscriber.
Quick question, will there be any simulation questions on the SEC+ exam that you know of? After I completed my Net+ I gave myself a 2 day break and began studying Security. On my Net+ exam I was expecting a min of 3 sim. questions, but there we're 7! OMG! I just don't want any surprises on my Sec+. :D
BTW: Thanks for the Net+ Episodes. Got a 875, and I had not tested in years thanks to you guys!

David,
Thanks for writing in. While I'm not allowed to say what is specifically on the exam, there are a few things I can help with. There are definitely simulation questions on the exam. CompTIA calls these "Performance Based" questions and they mention them in a few dark corners of their website, but don't draw a lot of attention to them so it is easy to be caught unawares. They typically take two forms; either asking you to configure something, or asking you to interpret data. In the case of configuring something, it will typically be a generic firewall, router or server so you don't need to memorize steps. If you understand the concepts behind the settings, then the generic settings screens won't pose a problem. The same thing goes for the interpretation questions. It will be generic output from a system, and as long as you understand the concepts behind it, you will breeze right through.
Hope that helps,

Hey Don, Ronnie
2 weeks ago I got SEC+ certified (860)! I wanted to say thank you for all the material that you guys offered. Not only with SEC, but with NET as well. I'm an IT Supervisor at my job, but I am seeking to be a Linux Sys Admin. In doing so I figured it would be a good idea to get these 2 certs under my belt before I moved any further in Linux.
Either way, I just wanted to say thank you for the phenomenal service that your company offers. -
Congratulations David! We're always glad to hear when our viewers are successful. I wish we were launching our Linux+ show sooner since that is your next target, but it will probably be another two months before that show launches.
Best of luck,

Passed the SY0-401 exam yesterday (861)! The 301 course here helped a ton! I also viewed a lot of the SSCP course videos and studied the "CompTIA Security+ Study Guide: SY0-401". There were a lot of simulation questions on the 401 version. I don't remember the exact number, but they took me about 30% of my available time overall to finish.
Anyone about to take this test, be sure to pay attention to Don when he's configuring firewalls, switches, routers, and even settings in the OS. Not all the simulation questions are configuration problems, but if you know the reasons behind why certain procedures, equipment, and configurations are necessary and the more common protocols / ports, then you'll be fine.
Good luck to those studying! Thank you ITProTV for the great courseware!

I passed the Security+ 301 series exam this pass Friday with 876/900. I used the videos from this site which where really well done and fun to watch. The sharing of real life experiences and demos of real life applications where very informative. For a books I used, CompTIA Security+: Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-301 Study Guide and, CompTIA Security+ SY0-301 Authorized Cert Guide, Deluxe Edition (2nd Edition). If someone wants the best study combo in my opinion use the Get Ahead book, and the authors, premium content and the videos from this site and you will be more that ready for the exam.
