ACMT Question

I read somewhere that you cannot take the ACMT exam unless you work for Apple or an authorized service provider. Is this true? If it is, is there a way to gain the knowledge from the cert without actually working for either?

I believe the ACMT is now retired. What has succeeded in its place now is the Apple Device Support Exam
The Apple Device Support exam measures a candidate's understanding of the tools, services, and best practices that a help desk professional, technical coordinator, or service provider uses to support iPhone, iPad, and Mac users; manage networks; or provide technical support for Apple devices. This exam is based on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura. Candidates who pass this exam earn the Apple Support Professional certification and digital badge. Passing this exam is a prerequisite to taking the Apple Deployment and Management exam.
There is no longer a employment requirement that I know of to sit for the exam. Now earning the certification doesn't validate you to order parts. Apple parts are ordered through their GSX system in which you must be an Apple Authorized Provider or have a Self Servicing Account.
