Earned my CompTIA A+ Certification.. Now what?
-
Hello,
I earned my cert. recently and couldn't be happier about it. Thanks to Wes & Ronny (along with other sources) I get to start on this new ride, and don't intend to stop anytime soon.Switching careers is a daunting task but I think it would be worth it. Having no experience (other than passing my A+ and minor computer knowledge) I want to keep studying for more certifications while looking for a good starter job. I suppose my question would be should I continue with Network +, security, etc., or wait to land a job to gain proper experience before moving to more detailed subjects.
Thanks!

I would say you need to try and do both. Never stop learning, certifications help you to keep learning and help you to advance your career. With all due respect, never "wait to land a job." Get your foot in the door; promotions and opportunities are easier to accept or reject once you start your career. Keep learning and keep your certification goals ahead of you.
Some companies may even support your training, especially if they believe you can become a better and more loyal employee and advance through their company.
That's my suggestion.

I agree with Ronny. No need to remain stagnant while you job hunt. Keep learning. Network+ is a great compliment to the A+, and then once you get the Security+, you start earning those stacked certification titles. See here: https://www.comptia.org/certifications/which-certification/stackable-certifications
Good luck!

@Rick-Borecki When I got start, I was a career changer coming from fast-food. I agree with Ronnie, you should think about networking (the human interaction kind!....lol). You can visit technology events, conferences, webinars, vendor-sponsored conventions or in-person training events as these are a great way to learn the real-world environment and communicate with other likeminded people. It is a great opportunity to market your interest in the industry. One last thing, be willing to do the work that others will not! This sets you apart from the rest.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. I'll network (with humans, lol Wes) the best I can, and continue to learn more
Like to add I do have 2 interviews lined up for help desk positions this week. Wish me luck!
