Should I get my Net+ before thinking about going for a Security+ cert?
-
Hi,
I just passed my A+ thanks to the learning course! Big thank you to Wes and Ronnie.
I am interested in taking a Security+ cert and am wondering if its best to get Net+ first.Thank you,
Weston P. -
Hi Weston,
According to Comptia's website they recommend having your Net+ as well as 2 years in an administration role.

Please keep in mind these are only recommendations and not hard requirements for passing the exam. However, going through the material there will be some presumed knowledge that you may be lacking and have to learn.

Hey @Weston-Pillera great question, in the Security+ exam you will encounter a variety of networking topics that will be assumed knowledge. As @Andrew-Despres mentioned there is a recommendation to have 2 years of experience in an admin role. If you do not have this experience, you are going to have to backfill this knowledge when tackling the Security+ exam. For this reason I do recommend Network+ first, however there is no requirement.

Great, thank you @Andrew-Despres @wes-bryan!

Sure thing @Weston-Pillera, when you have questions about your training do not hesitate to ask! :-)

Agreed - recommended path: A+, Net+, Sec+.

I'm currently studying to take the A+ exam.
