BEING LOOKING FORWARD FOR A CAREER TRANSITION IN CYBER SECURITY WORLD BUT A PERSON FROM NON IT BACKGROUND,CAN YOU PLEASE SUGGEST HOW TO KICKSTART
AIM IS TO BE A PART OF RED TEAM. -
Hi @Shivam-Jadon,
Glad to hear you're looking at getting into the Cybersecurity world.
For someone who does not have an IT background I would highly suggest to solidify your fundamentals. Cybersecurity is not an entry-level industry to break into. You usually need to have several years working in the IT sector before you can move in cybersecurity.
My suggestion to you would be as follows:
- CompTIA A+ certification: This cert gives you an overview of technologies used within the IT sector and what you will encounter as a helpdesk technician. This is also where you will learn the basics of troubleshooting.
- Network+/Cisco CCNA: These courses will help you develop your networking skills that you will require going into cybersecurity. Networking is a huge topic that you will need to understand if you plan on working as a Red Hat or IT professional in general.
- Linux+/LPIC: You will also need to learn Linux skills as a big component of working in cybersecurity involves using Linux and bash. A big Linux distro for red/blue teams is Kali Linux.
- Programming Language: Knowing some kind of programming language will be crucial to work in cybersecurity. I saw that you have a post about Python and that is a great language to learn as its entry barrier is quite low compared to others.
- Windows/Windows Server: Since Windows is the leading operating system in the world today still it would be beneficial to know their inner workings. With Windows Server it would also be great to learn ADDS (Active Directory Domain Services) and how it works as that is a huge user management tool within the corporate world.
- CompTIA Security+: This is a great introduction to concepts of cybersecurity. After achieving your Sec+ you can then move onto more difficult certifications like the CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) and others.
There's probably a bunch of other skills/certs that the ITPro team would suggest or different paths you can follow to get into cybersecurity. I hope this helps!
