macosx alternative for putty?

what macosx alternative is there for puTTY? Can I use terminal to do the same thing?

I think it depends on what you want to do. Putty is a Swiss Army Knife. It supports multiple protocols and tunnels.
If you just want to ssh or telnet then yes you should be able to do that from the terminal. See below links for more info.

I agree with Johan's statement, it does depend on what you need. The other thing I would add in it also depends on your willingness to "pay" for the same feature that you would have for free with puTTY.
Here's a link of possibilities to alternatives that may be out there, sadly only a few of them are free and the free ones are not as feature rich as PuTTY: http://alternativeto.net/software/putty/?platform=mac
I too am migrating to using a MacBook as my daily machine. It's not been as difficult as I thought but like you certain things that I found easy to do like putty, I'm having a hard time finding the same features in the way I did in Windows. Now that being said, I am enjoying it and finding it pleasing to work in the majority of the time.

Mac OS X, Linux, and most non-Windows systems come with such basic utilities available via command line.
ssh user@host
telnet host port
"man ssh" and "man telnet" for more. And if you cannot figure out how to read the manual pages, OS X even has a "man man".
