I am planing on replacing the dvd drive with a hard drive caddie. I am going to put an SSD in it and I want that to be my primary Drive. I want the 3.5" drive to be my secondary storage unit. Will this be possible without any extreme changes like adding rEFIt?

I'm a relatively new MAC user myself but doesn't System Preferences and selecting startup let you do this when you choose the disk?
When you install the new disk and install MAC OS you should be able to pick the drive to install to and that might set it as the primary boot device.
If not, other, more experienced MAC users can probably chime in here to help too. If not I'll see if I can ask Don about it. Let me know!
