Questions about the IT Fundamentals Exam
-
Hey all,
I'm thinking about trying to get my IT Fundamentals cert. I've started watching the free course, and noticing that CompTIA has changed the layout and some of the objectives.
FIrst question: will there be an updated version to be recorded in the works?Second: Whats the difference between proctored and non proctored? I'm not doing this for work nor am I doing it because I'm a student. (I am a student, but I'm not taking the exam for a class or my degree.)
Third: Since IT Fundamentals isn't a part of the practice exams on ITProTV, does any one know of places to get/take practice exams? CompTIA's website doesn't have any.
Thanks in advance. Here's to getting my second cert!

Wait before you take that exam. This exam I believe was retired on August 15, 2015 and CompTIA is not replacing it. So the problem that we have is that material content is good to help you in preparation but is not a good idea for the exam.
Second: Whats the difference between proctored and non proctored? I'm not doing this for work nor am I doing it because I'm a student. (I am a student, but I'm not taking the exam for a class or my degree.)
Proctored Exams normally require you to sign in and someone is observing you during the exam to make sure you're not violating the rules of sitting for that exam. non-Proctored exams are normally "open-book." It used to be that you had to have some extenuating circumstances before you could do a non-Proctored.
Third: Since IT Fundamentals isn't a part of the practice exams on ITProTV, does any one know of places to get/take practice exams? CompTIA's website doesn't have any.
I have to point you to my answer to question one. I will try and find out why it's still listed in our active courseware section. We have a pin in the General Discussion section of the forums about Exam Retirements: https://forums.itpro.tv/topic/549/exam-retirements-recent
Thanks in advance. Here's to getting my second cert!
You may want to consider the recently recorded MTA series instead of this retired IT Fundamentals exam.
Update We've move the CompTIA IT Fundamentals to the Legacy Course Section of the Course Library to try and reduce the confusion we've caused here.

Thank you so much Ronnie! I'll have to check out the MTA Series!
