System Prefernces - Sharing name isn't right
-
I'm not sure someone here will have an answer. I've done some googling from time to time and haven't found a reason/solution. My Macbook Pro shares a folder. I'm on multiple networks most with Windows Server running DHCP and DNS.
When I go into System Preferences - Sharing, the name the system is reporting files can be accessed shows a name of a different computer on the network which isn't the name of my Mac. This only seems to happen in Windows Domains with MS DHCP/DNS running. When I look at DHCP I see the name of my Mac with the IP that I have. -
I'm assuming you're wanting to share a folder from your macbook pro, and what you're seeing from System Preferences-Sharing is not your macbook pro's computer name.

If you're successfully sharing the folder, then it's working using your IP address to share the folder. You can verify this by trying to connect to the shared folder from another computer on the same network using the IP address. If so, then whatever name is showing up that is different may be something that got cached on your macbook pro.

If you're not wanting to share the folder, then uncheck whatever is checked in system preferences-sharing. Restart the computer, that should clear out any sharing preferences. Then you can start all over and reset the sharing options you've previously set in system preferences.
