Adding iSCSI software drivers to a vMware Cluster
-
Hello Adam & Mike,
I just watched your lesson on Identify storage protocols, storage device types. I understand how to add an iSCSI software adapter to an ESXi host and mount the storage. My question is if you have 3 ESXi host in a VMware cluster configuration, what is the correct way to add iSCSI software adapter to the 3 hosts so that the storage is available to all of the hosts in the cluster? Thanks,

@Cecil-Burrowes, I hope all is well. The process is / would be the same whether the hosts are in or out of a cluster, as the storage is added one host at a time to make the datastore available.
The process that Mike and I illustrate in the episode would simply be repeated for each host as you want to give them access to the iSCSI datastore.
If you have any questions, or need any additional items clarified as you continue to work through the course, please be in touch as needed.
Good Luck !!!
Adam

Good evening Adam,
Thanks for answering my question regarding the VMware cluster. Another quick question. How many storage appliances can an iSCSI interface support? Say for instance you had a SAN storage appliance already connected 20TB and it is running out of space. Is it possible to add a second SAN appliance to the same interface to increase the storage capacity available? Thanks and stay safe,

@Cecil-Burrowes , Hello, I hope all is well. The shortest answer to your question is that you can look here to get what we refer to as the Configuration Maximums information for ANY/ALL VMware products:
https://configmax.vmware.com/guest?vmwareproduct=vSphere&release=vSphere 7.0&categories=1-0
It does depend on several factors, but if you are using a software initiator, the limit is 64 targets per adapter
Storage Virtual Adapters and Devices
Virtual SCSI Targets Per Virtual SCSI Adapter (PVSCSI only)
64
Limit applicable to PVSCSI only. Any combination of disk or VMDirectPath SCSI target.Cheers,

Thanks a lot Adam.
