CCENT online and on Roku order of classes different
-
Is there a way to know which classes should be taken in what order? The order in Roku is differnet than online. I am getting confused and feel like I am missing some information that a previous episode covered. (even though I may not have known I should watch this episode before that episode.)
Thank you,
Matt -
Matthew,
Our current ROKU channel doesn't really have a good way to order the classes except the default alphabetical. This doesn't lend itself to following the objective layout. We're working on a new ROKU channel that is supposed to provide for our subscribers what you're asking that should be rolled in the next 30-60 days. So look for that!
My only help recommendation is for you to maybe take a look on the web site for the CCENT shows in the order they are listed on there to help. This should only be a temporary solution before the new ROKU channel is in place and ready to go!

Suggestion:
Name the files 01. Intro, 02. Basic config, 03. switchin part 1, 04. switching part 2, etc.
Since it's alpha/numeric it would sort correctly. -
Matthew,
I will pass your suggestion along to our team. I'm sure there was a reason we didn't do it. I just don't happen to know what that reason was... I will try to find out.

While on this topic of class order...
Online (new course library format) the classes are listed in this order:
Overview of CCENT
Intro To Cisco
Initial Device Configuration
Basic Switch Configuration
Switching Technologies
Switch Technologies
Introduction to Routing
IP Routing Technologies
Intro to Routing Protocols
Intro to OSPF
Network Address Translation
Access Control Lists
Troubleshooting
As such, I have been trying to watch them in this order. I just ran into an issue where in the one labeled Switch Technologies, (part 2) around 58:31 Don says "If you remember from the OSPF Episode..."
I don't remember from the OSPF Episode, because it comes later in the list.
So now I am completely confused as I feel like I should have some knowledge that this episode is building on that I don't yet have. (As I have not even learned what OSPF is yet.)
Can you help me with the proper order of classes?
Thoroughly confused,

Matthew,
We shot these things out of order. But watching up to where you were referring to it's about the technology CDP. The main coverage of the topic is here in this course.
What you would have seen in the OSPF episode is no real coverage except to mention that adjacencies were built in OSPF using CDP. It's just a reminder that CDP is not specific to switches and it could be used in the router world.
We try our best to limit some of the odd references but we don't always catch it.
Unlike actually courses that depend on courseware development, we are only able to use the exam objectives to build out our courses and we try to present them in the order as they appear in the objective list. But in the early days, we kinda talked about routers then talked about switches. So usually if there is more to be found in another episode, we may tell you to make sure you go back and watch that episode again.
I wish there was an easier way to do this but there is no easy course outline that lays out every episode in logical order of referral. There were some days, that we didn't shoot Cisco for 2 or 3 weeks and came back to it. We tried to put it as close as we can on the website to follow but there are going to be unusual references like this especially with our content shoots from our early days.

Matthew,
I talked with Nate, he says he will post here something he believes will help out.

Below is the order the CCENT episodes were filmed in. Most episodes were meant to be independent of the other episodes, but there are a few that build off of one another. Those episodes are usually named "Part 1" and "Part 2".
Intro to Cisco
Initial Device Configuration
Basic Switch Configuration
Switching Technologies
Introduction to Routing
IP Routing Technologies
Intro to Routing Protocols
Intro to OSPF
Switch Technologies
Access Control Lists
Network Address Translation
