MS Certs: Where to Begin
-
I'm trying to well round my skills, and I've taken the Network+ and I've almost completed Linux+. Next, I would like to take to obtain a Microsoft cert. Which route should I go? MCSA, MCSE? Desktop, Server? 7, 8, 2008, 2012? It is not a job requirement to have this cert, but I want to fulfill it on my own to add to my resume and skillset.
Thank you. -
Chad,
This isn't an easy choice. Choosing the Microsoft Server track includes gaining the Microsoft client knowledge level as well. It also involves more exams also. Microsoft has chosen the career orientation of their certifications. For example, if you're doing or going to be doing Desktop Support (workstations, applications and end users) then MCSA (Windows 8 or Windows 7) if you're going to be supporting infrastructure (servers, connectivity, and business functions) then MCSA (Windows Server 2012) and if you're career goal is design and administrative and policy then MCSE.
I would start off with the client certification as a step to your server certifications.
Cordially,
