SharePoint on Server 2003 to Server 2008

Hi,
We have an aging server running 2003, where SharePoint is installed, which powers our intranet. We are interested in migrating our SharePoint/intranet over to Server 2008. What's the best way to get started on this?

Note: We will eventually be shutting down our server 2003 server, and 2008 taking its place on a separate server (that is already in use).
