70-410 remote management Install options
-
Hi,
In the 70-410 episode one. The code provided for the enable remote management portion includes "WINRM quickconfig"
When I was taking the measureup test. They have a question where the answer saysYou should not use the winrm quickconfig command to enable Windows Remote Management. This command was used to enable remote management in ealier versions, but has been deprecated in Windows Server 2012.
I just wanted to raise awareness of that since those 2 sources are stating different answers.
Thank you for all the work you are doing. -
Benjamin,
Thank you for pointing that out. For now, both methods are correct. Windows Server 2012 supports the old command and the new command. Future versions of Windows may remove the old command, but that hasn't been confirmed yet. For the record, here are the two:
Old Command (via Command Prompt):
winrm quickconfig
New Command (via PowerShell):
Enable-PSRemoting
The new command is actually an alias forSet-WSManQuickConfig
which is the true successor to the oldwinrm quickconfig
command. That wasn't mentioned in the episode and it really should have been. I'll have one of the guys add it to the show notes to avoid confusion in the future.
Thank you for pointing that out and sorry for any confusion it may have caused.
