ICND2 No VPN Video
-
Hey everyone. I was bit troubled to see that for the CCNA video set, there is nothing on VPN's here, but clearly in the objectives for the ICND2, there's a full chapter on VPN's.. Will this be added later?

Steven,
Thank you for writing in. VPNs are covered in depth in our CCNA Security show. While VPNs are mentioned in the exam objectives for the 200-101 exam, I would describe it as a "foot note" and not a "full chapter." If you pull up the exam objectives you will find VPNs listed as follows:5.0 WAN technologies (15%) 5.1 Identify different WAN Technologies 5.1.a Metro Ethernet 5.1.b VSAT 5.1.c Cellular 3G/4G 5.1.d MPLS 5.1.e T1/E1 5.1.f ISDN 5.1.g DSL 5.1.h Frame relay 5.1.i Cable 5.1.j VPN 5.2 Configure and verify a basic WAN serial connection 5.3 Configure and verify a PPP connection between Cisco routers 5.4 Configure and verify Frame Relay on Cisco routers 5.5 Implement and troubleshoot PPPoE
VPNs fall under a list of topics that you need to be able to "identify" and not "configure" which means conceptual knowledge only. The reason I say it is more of a "foot note" is because it is given the same priority as fringe topics like VSAT and ISDN in a list that only makes up 1/5 of a topic that counts for only 15% of the exam. In the CCNA show we covered it appropriately in the WAN technologies episode at the 23:10 marker where we discussed the concept of VPN tunnels and their functions.
All that being said, though, it certainly wouldn't hurt to learn more about them. I encourage you to jump over to the CCNA Security show where we have a full 2 hour episode just on VPNs and their configuration.
Thanks for watching, and please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
