Exam question technique for M365 fundamentals course (MS-900)
-
@mike-roderick and anyone with experience of this exam,
Hi, been awhile!
Having used M365 as an end user and from a security managmeent perspective the past few years I thought it would be good idea to take this course and exam. I've completed the course and found it very enlightening re the M365 eco-system; it really clarified and filled some gaps in my knowledge which was great. As an aside, I also completed content on LinkedIn Learning and Cybrary and itpro.tv wins for both content quality and delivery.I booked my exam to give myself a target to work towards and made a start with the practice quizzes.
I've never done a Microsoft cert before so have no idea how representative the question types are of the real exam.I'm concerned that on my first two attempts I'm scoring less than 50% (!), usually because I've selected 3 or 4 correct answers or put one thing in a 'put these in order' in the wrong place; in such cases there are no partial marks given for what I did get right, it's simply null points.. I think the issue is my exam technique rather than knowledge per se (except for some of the modern mangaement stuff and exact locations of some config options which I'll study some more).
I have not seen anything in the exam objectives that states what the pass mark is; do you have any idea of what I should be aiming for?
The exam is scheduled for Monday, would you recommend I reschedule?
Any other study advice is welcomed! -
I hope all is well. The passing score for almost every Microsoft exam is 700, including the MS-900 exam.
While you are the best judge of your own readiness, if you are not 100% confident, and it sounds like you are not, then postponing is not a bad idea, BUT... you need to develop a study plan that will put the extra time you are going to gain to use to SPECIFCALLY address the area(s) that you feel still need some additional time and effort to hone and clarify. If you need help with developing that plan, please let us know.
Good Luck !!
Cheers,
Adam

@Adam-Gordon Thanks for getting back to me and clarifying the pass mark. I'll drill some more today having studied some weak areas yesterday and if I'm still not feeling confident I'll reschedule and give myself another week. Thanks :)

@Adam-Gordon Just an update re exam and to thank you again for your advice; I delayed the exam and passed it on Monday with a score of 916. I thought that the actual exam was easier than the Kaplan practice tests; if anyone else is in the same boat I was - don't be discouraged.

I do not feel the Kaplan practice exams are very good - they do not give partial points / scores for partially correct answers, and they seem to be way beyond the league of the actual exams - and the content is certainly not covered in ITPROTV to this level either. It can be a learning resource but for a fundamentals exam this seems just a little bit NUTS.
