ESXi for type 1 or 2?
-
Apologies for the stupid question, I am watching the CCNA course, the Virtualization video (part 1) Mr Wong is introducing examples of hypervisors and he says that ESXi is for type 1 Bare metal. I know its bare metal but... isn't that type 2? I may be mixing myself up or it may not matter, could someone please let me know? Starting to doubt myself.

Type 1 yypervisor are the ones that do not need an operating system to run on. Type 2 hypervisors do. Hence ESXi, which can be installed directly on the hardware, without an underlying OS, is a type 1 hypervisor.

@Ronnie-Wong Brilliant, thank you! I just watched the episode again and I think I became confused when you introduced ESXi as a type 2 hypervisor (14:36). Fantastic series by the way, I have done a lot of training and none have managed to stick with me so well thank you for your hard work!

That is just a verbal slip up. I will see if I can post an errata to post with the episode.

@Ronnie-Wong Not a problem I understand now, once again thank you for all your hard work, I am loving the series!
