Cisco CCNP Official Study Guides
-
Hi,
I am currently studying for the CCNP ENCOR exam (350-401) and after that for the ENARSI exam.
Back in 2013 I purchased the 3 books bundle for the CCNP R&S (642-XXX) Route, Switch, T-shoot.
Is it wise to go over the study materials on these "old" books and also study from the new study contents to really master the materials ? Or will it be wiser to just study from the new updated CCNP content ?
I noticed for example that EIGRP is not covered on the ENCOR exam, is it covered on the ENARSI exam ? etc...
I also would like to hear recommended official study guide for the ENCOR & ENARSI exam.Regards,

Make sure that you download the official exam blueprint from Cisco for ENCOR and ENARSI. This will list definitively what topics are covered on the exam for you.
The ROUTE, SWITCH and T-SHOOT are helpful in the fact that majority of the material is covered in there for both of the ENCOR and ENARSI. There are objective domains, at least one, that are not covered in that material. I can think of the
virtualization
andautomation
domains. Mastery of course is the ultimate goal. In preparation for the ENCOR exam specifically this is where Anthony's approach can help you scope more appropriately.As far as recommendations of the OSG for ENCOR and ENARSI. They are written for a particular audience, which is the person who is ultimately seeking the CCIE in Enterprise Infrastructure. This means the topics though covered on ENCOR exam, they are covered at a very detailed level that does over prepare you for the exam. This is fine but it's not scoped for the person looking to sit the exam within a relatively short time...it is scoped for preparing you for the CCIE exam. This makes sense in the fact that ENCOR is the equivalent of the "CCIE Written" exam now. I recommend that you use these particular guides to help you on difficult topics you need more guidance.

Thanks for the quick response Ronnie :)
I will take my time to master the topics from the "old" books, I am in no rush to sit for the exam yet, and then purchase the updated OSG.

@Ronnie-Wong
I have read many of the users reviews on Amazon (I use Amazon Kindle App to read the eBooks) for the OSG both ENCOR and ENARSI (both 1st edition), and very poor reviews. It looks like the study materials were released in a rush without any proof reading before the release, so I will wait for the 2dn edition.I found a very good site for the CCNA, CCNP, CCIE reading materials, so I will go with that for now.

So, my opinion here only. I believe the writers took elements of their previous work in whole and got them edited together to try and make a compendium volume which is what we see in the OSGs. Though the material is ok, yes editing was not their strong suit. Also the editing that was done was done, I believe for length rather than anything else.
The guy behind the network lessons is a phenom. I have nothing but humble desire to be more like him. He writes well and if there is errata, he changes it quickly and is constantly developing very good content on a multitude of topics.
