Which Linux-distro is the topic of Linux Essentials, and what way is the best and easy way to spin it up for the period I do this curse?
-
Dear Madam/ Sir,
I only have one laptop available, and I want to spin up the Linux-distro's which best suit the Linux Essentials curse for the time I am busy doing it.
What is the best, cost-effective and easy way to do this?Sincerely,

You can create a LiveSB, this will allow you to boot directly to ubuntu running on the USB and RAM. You will not save any changes here but you can run and explore the OS. check here https://askubuntu.com/questions/172570/how-can-i-create-a-livecd-livedvd-liveusb
I would say if you're coming from the Windows world, Ubuntu may be the most popular distro and can do anything you need it to for Linux Essentials.

Hello Ronnie,
I just saw the video where they explain which two OS to spin up. CentOS is also one of them. Does that also work with a LiveSB?

... and should I use the server versions, or are the desktop versions suitable for Linux Essentials?

@Herbertus-J-Grootenboer-0 If this is your first time, get the version with a graphical user interface. Work towards terminal or server like edition. You can always access terminal within the GUI.
Just try not cheat and use anything but terminal if that's your goal. Not sure how much extra RAM or hard-drive space you have on the laptop. If strained on RAM, eye the server version.
If you also need access to the host operating system, consider consider https://www.virtualbox.org/ and load the Live Disk in that environment Virtual Box environment.
If you want to install a Linux distro so you can take snapshots or save changes, depending on your USB connectors on the laptop, could consider a $40 - $70 addon to laptop by buying an internal HDD 1TB put it in a external slot case and connect by USB 2 or 3. You would have to tweak Virtual Box where it saves the virtual machines. This will help spread out the reads and writes, if the laptop also has a traditional hard drive. This would be easier than doing a duel boot should you eventually go that route. -

That is about your comfort level. and yes, it looks is if CentOS has a "Live" version you can run.
