W8.1/2012R2 - Hyper-V Parent VM, Gen 1 or 2?
-
This isn't something that I think really matters too much for practical purposes, but I was wondering is the Hyper-V Parent VM Generation 1, 2 or neither?
Looking at what I have access to and how things work from my parent the features don't really match either, so I'm wondering if the parent is just special and not limited to a specific generation unlike the child VM's.

Todd,
I had to fire up a Hyper-V to test something out here. I had a default Server 2012R2 Gen 2 VM. I created a differencing disk from that VM. Then I was able to go back and create a Gen1 VM from that differencing disk.
I cannot say that a parent VM is independent of Generation (1 or 2) because doesn't give you an option to choose neither.
Other's may have more insight on this since this is based on what I just experimented with about an hour ago.
Cordially,
