New Project Manager Requirements
-
Team, I would like some advice on what certs that I should focus on for my first position as a IT Service delivery manager, project manger, or a related position. I purchased the premium membership with IT ProTv which is great along with the ITIL Foundations Vs. 4. I also went to CompTia and purchased the practice tests from Certmaster for the Project + which I regret for the most part because of the lack of jobs wanting this cert very few even mention it. I have 13 years in IT, I am 43 years old, I also just got my B.S. degree in Information Systems Management in 12/2019. Well I just really would like some solid advice here on what IT management certs to get next after the ITIL foundation and should I even bother getting the Project + seems like a huge waste of time and money after searching for it.

If your company will pay for it, you can look at the more advanced ITL courses. If you are looking to focus on Project Manager, then look at the PMP. That is a in demand project management cert (At least in the USA) Europe is a different cert.
If your company is paying for the exams, it can't hurt to do the Project+ and see if you want to continue in that direction. The cert itself is not really listed much on job web sites but it does give foundation knowledge.

Hi @Jacob-Gore
Happy to hear you are working towards getting some certifications in Project Management. @SIMON-TAPLIN is correct in that the PMP is one of the top certifications you can get. Government contracts require that all Projects be led by a PMP certified project manager. If you do work in Europe or other areas, the PRINCE2 certification is also a good one to pursue.
Best wishes going forward!
