Migrating configurations of Cisco 5510 ASA 8.2(5) to Firepower ####?
-
I'm planning to migrate current configuration of Cisco 5510 ASA 8.2(5) to Firepower. I see mention of AWS/GNS3 which I may use. With popular Cisco I'd hope to find ASA/Firepower on virtual Practice labs. Do you have anything from Practice labs maybe in CCNA/CCNP lab for ASA and Firepower hands-on I didn't find? I was thinking of going through CCNA/CCNP labs to get more Cisco familiar. Aside from this Cisco firewall we don't use Cisco (mostly Enterasys/Extreme Network).
I find this on search for Firepower
Course: Cisco CCNP Security SNCF (Exam 300-710) Object Management
Course: Cisco CCNP Security SCOR (Exam 350-701)In Legacy found some Firepower & ASA stuff and had to do Cntrl F search to find: FirePOWER with Advanced FireSIGHT Administration, Cisco ASA Firewalls, Cisco ASA Express Security, CCNP Security SIMOS (300-209) & CCNP Security SENSS (300-206). Going through these now. Apparently big change from 8.2 to 8.3+.
I did acquire a hardware ASA5510 to practice which also has 8.2(5). But I don't currently have hardware for firepower device to practice with. Any suggestions/practice ideas on successful migration from 5510 ASA 8.2(5) to Firepower ####? greatly appreciated. Also is a Firepower 1010 good replacement for ASA5510 which other Firepower devices within reasonable cost would be a good replacement? Thank you! : )

This is a hard one for practice today. Many lab providers don't provide an ASA unless you do something like a full access CCIE lab rack rental.
I do not believe the practice-labs environment has access to an ASA any more either. But you can check this if you send a email to the direct support department of our sister company: support@practice-labs.com They should be able to let you if they have anything like that.
The GNS3 is picky unless you have the approved image to provide with it. I worked with it years ago...but it was very finicky and I eventually gave up on it because of the major time it took to get the environment right for it. But they do have more templates available by comparision today than years ago.
You also have the option of Cisco's CML2 environment. It's a yearly subscription but they do have Cisco ASA that is included in that one.
For Cisco Firepower, I only know of one company that does that is Todd Lammle. He's the only I know that has invested into a complete firepower lab environment.

Cisco's CML2
Hi Ronnie,
I was able to access and ASA on Cisco CML2 following this guys video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k57RRoFyeqI
I accessed default lab's ASA but was not able to make my own lab with just ASA turn on. I may need play with it a little more to figure it out. For now I could at least use the default lab ASA. I logged on and did some show commands.
I also emailed Practice labs for any Cisco ASA/firepower practice labs.
I was hopping to use GNS3 with Enterasys/Extreme Network labs too. So I hope it is better. But I've not used GNS3 yet.CML2 seems promising Thanks again!
