Multi area OSPF design
-
Hello, I am working in an environment with a mult-area OSPF design and I've come across a need to route between two non-Area 0 networks. My understanding is that OSPF areas all need to be hung off area 0 and route through area 0 to get to other areas. I just want to confirm that rule is absolute and something like the below diagram will not work?
Thanks.

Adam TylerWould like 10.10.6.0/24 and 10.10.7.0/24 to be able to route directly to one another without traversing area 0.

In OSPF you must route through a backbone. This is by design check out RFC 3509
the motivation section will help you understand why.

@Ronnie-Wong Thanks Ronnie. Maybe a static route where this is needed. It's really only for performance purposes.
