M365 Migration from VLSC
-
I currently have a Microsoft Volume License agree with 2 more payments. We want to convert our Exchange and Office license to O365 tenant. I thought this was possible, have some people tell me that we have to complete the agreement. Microsoft wants everyone to move a a subscription-based model. O365 will cost us more for the licensing, but we do not have to maintain the Exchange server and license management is easier. If we choose to migrate it will cost us an addition $8,000 a year for the next two years.

Hi @Bill-Hiebeler,
Software Asset Management is a big pain in the neck sometimes. Especially when dealing with transitioning to a different model. Reading your post, however, I'm not sure what you're asking exactly. Are you asking whether we think it's a good idea to transition earlier and just pay the additional costs you've mentioned? If you could clarify, that would give us a better idea on how or if we can answer the question.
Hope you are having a good end to your year and are looking forward to the holidays!

Hi Chris, no I have a client that has the mandate to migrate to the M365 instead of a on-premise exchange server. They have 2 years of a volume license agreement. My vendor is saying they have to complete the agreement or pay M365 licensing in addition. For this client, it will cost them 8k per year for the next 2 years. Sorry for the delay. I completed MS900 course and throught it was mentioned then ability to convert VLSC license to M365.

Hi @Bill-Hiebeler ,
You might have already tried this, but Microsoft has a dedicated Volume Licensing Service team that should be able to help. For those users or clients that purchased licenses from 3rd-party sources, you will most likely need to contact Microsoft Support in order to register a license ID in the VLSC and then gain access to the Microsoft Admin sites.
I am bringing in my co-edutainer Wes Bryan to perhaps shed a bit more light on it as well.
