Storage Spaces vs Hardware RAID 6

I watched the 'storage spaces' video on the MSCA Server 2012 R2 course and I want to know if anyone has used JBOD with Storage Spaces rather than hardware RAID SAN setup? The company I am working for is looking into running their own Exchange Server for their customers (1000 email accounts) and we are currently quoting hardware RAID setup. The idea is to put the VMs of the Exchange on the SAN and have two physical hosts for redundancy. I was curious how much of a performance hit will incur using the updated Storage Spaces in 2012 R2. Can anybody vouch for Storage Spaces?Cheers,

I was hoping that someone has been using it in the enterprise. We haven't had any response. There's an irony to your post here. Most business like your company are looking to save money and it's seems Storage Spaces may be a cost effective solution. The irony though is that in a production environment, the cost of the equipment to setup the way you want to for your particular configuration may cost as much is your current researched solution.
