The short answer is that you must attend at least 1 VMware Authorized course to be eligible to be granted a certification.

There are A FEW caveats that go with that statement however..., as noted below:

First, you need to attend an authorized class IF you are brand new to VMware certification, and looking to certify for the first time.

Second, you need to attend an authorized class IF you have been certified in the past, BUT, you let your certification(s) lapse, and they are NO LONGER active and current.

Third, you DO NOT need to attend an authorized class IF you already hold ANY VMware certification AND it is active and in good standing AT or ABOVE the VCP level, in ANY of the current technology silos/verticals that certifications are offered in.

Fourth, you DO NOT need to attend an authorized class IF you already hold ANY VMware certification AND it is active and in good standing AT or ABOVE the VCP level, in ANY of the current technology silos/verticals that certifications are offered in AND you are going to recertify/renew.

Hi Adam;
Thanks for your reply. I have worked with VMWare a little, and I actually went through a course with another vendor. I found it really helpful unfortunately the version the presenter dealt with was outdated. I do have VMWare player installed on my laptop and I will try to follow as much as possible and be sure I will reach out for help. Thanks.

@Dan-Wages , My apologies for not answering you sooner. YES the current show does cover what you need to know for the exam. The change was really just a "cosmetic" one to align the certification and exam with a year designation.

There will not be any major changes in the exam until vSphere 7.0 is released. I will be updating our content for the 7.0 release, and the new exam, once it is available.

Yes, that is correct, VMware has started to label there certifications using a "year" identifier to indicate when the certification was awarded. So going forward, you would get a VCP-DCV-2020 if you chose to renew/acquire the certification during the 2020 year.

I hope all is well. We do not break out any of the VCP-DCV 6.5 episodes in the show to be specific to the Foundations exam.

However, having said that, if you look at the exam information for the Foundations exam, which can be found at the link below:

You will see that ALL of the exam items are covered in one or more episodes of the show, and you should be able to easily map the required episodes to the topics so that you can watch the ones that you are interested in.
