In the 70-413 show, there are the "Planning for AD Infrastructure" and "Planning for AD Infrastructure Part 2" (Logical); also "Planning for AD Infrastructure" and "Planning for AD Infrastructure Part 2" (Physical)

This means that we have 8 episodes covering just about everything about AD as you want.

The value of seeking a certification is always higher if it is the current technology. But having said that it doesn't mean the older technology certifications didn't provide value. What I mean by that is that is that your company may still be on Server 2008R2 or even Server 2012 when 2016 comes on the scene. Does that devalue the certification? Not really. To your company, a certified individual in their technology is probably as valued as the certification in the latest technology.

I would encourage you to continue in your pursuit of the Server 2012 certifications because some things may change but the fundamental concepts between 2012 and 2016 will be familiar. Your pursuit in 2012 will only help you as 2016 exams are on their way.

Microsoft normally offers the exams for their OSes within 6 months of the RTM. Sometimes, they even offer beta exams before the release of the OS. I can't remember exactly, but I believe I took the Vista Exam,Windows 7 in beta which would have been right before the release or soon after the release. The same is probably true of the Server OSes too.

They normally offer an upgrade exam between editions. I don't normally recommend this path because it requires you to answer questions from both OSes but people do them all the time!

I had to check and see what you meant here. Ok. Here's what I did. I ran a Windows 8.1 machine, using IE 11. Successfully, logged in to the itpro.tv website. Then I chose a course and selected the launch vlab button for any course. I chose the windows client. It had me install a client on to my computer and I had to reboot.

After the reboot, I did the same as above then waited for the vLab to populate: I typed in one VM and tried to copy that to another VM in the same lab: NO success! Then in my workstation, I opened notepad and typed in it. Then copied it and selected a VM, and opened notepad there, pasted: Success!

so yes, it allows you to paste from your Workstation to the VM.

Thanks for the reply, there is no "requirement" to complete the query in any time frame, it runs in the middle of the night. But when troubleshooting, that long delay is a real pain to wait for and made me wonder about indexes. Glad to know I was correct in my observation, sad that there is no way to speed this up. Alas I'm hourly so I got that going for me.... :)

Can you clarify your scenario?
Are the servers in different domains now?
If they are in different domains, are they in the same forest?
When you say Server B admin, are you referring to the local admins group?
If all of your servers are in the same domain, what are you creating the trust between?

Trusts are created between domains and forests, not servers.
You can use selective authentication when creating trusts, which will allow you to control what resources are accessible to what groups of users.

I'd love to help, just need a little more information.

Sorry to hear about your testing center troubles. I don't think that becoming a testing center is part of our business plan that I know of. I had it happen when dealing with the Prometric testing center and not so much with the PearsonVue center. Yeah, it's frustrating. We empathize.

I don't know if you can prebook an exam location by itself without the exam number. Not that i know.

I hate to say it, I was of absolutely no help at all in this post. sigh

To my knowledge, DirectAccess is only supported by Windows clients, and Microsoft has not announced plans to support any other OSes. If you need an iPad or other device to have access to your corporate network you will have to rely on a VPN tunnel. The only true advantage of DirectAccess is that it is invisible to the end user. VPN tunnels are invisible after you log in, so you are really just saving a user the effort of logging in.

Just a thought from a sysadmin in the field. CIM related commandlets are going to become very popular soon with Microsoft deciding to deprecate SNMP and only support up to version v2c. With no SNMPv3 support, which is starting to be pushed by compliance organizations such as PCI DSS and the like, Microsoft's only alternative currently is this.

SNMP is deprecated. Instead, use the Common Information Model (CIM), which is supported by the WS-Management web services protocol and implemented as Windows Remote Management.

I believe you kind of touched on it if I'm remembering rightly from when I watched the powershell courses you had but perhaps it would be a good one to go back and do something as a standalone/add-on for that material? Yes, you could always just use Get-Help but this is a large and complex class of commandlets. Save for those of us with a ton of time (ha, does that even happen in the IT world?) diving into that is kind of complex. If nothing else at least a running start into CIM might be helpful for those like me that work in industries that require it.

There are others in the ITProTV membership that probably have more experience on virtualization than I do and I hope they chime in!

Usually, the rule of thumb for vCPUs on a VM is to use them only if you have applications can used a multiple CPUs. Also, if you only have a Quad-Core, do not assign it more than that (no 8 vCPU, just because you see you can do it.)

Now on the other side of that coin is that you will experience performance issues too that is because of CPU scheduling. I do know of some admins that will say every piece of software is expecting to see 2 cores so you should do it but I would check the min requirements before doing so.

I was thinking the same thing. My only issue is finding a Printer that has a type 4 driver that windows 8 does not already have

Ralph, I have to apologize for not seeing this post.

Personally, I'm not sure sure if' you're accomplishing much by doing this. SANs are capable of doing what you're talking about without Storage Pools but if you're having to deal with disparate performance drives you may instead consider doing this but I don't know how the performance would be except in general computing theory: This storage pool will perform as well as the slowest device within that pool.
